Fast Times!

“seeking illumination about my role as an artist, and acknowledging protests in Egypt around the availability of food (etc.), I’m beginning a week-long mono-food fast (pumello), ending next Sunday, 5pm.” – Facebook wall announcement & keynote, yesterday

Yesterday I started a mono-food fast ’cause I’m looking for answers.  So what do you do if you want perspective?  Starve yourself!  Ok, not really, but fasts are an awesome tool.  Ghandi was all about ‘em.

I’m looking for answers about how to best participate in the community as an artist – both the local and international communities, so here goes…

I’ll post daily updates until the fast is complete on Sunday.

the Day 1 fast experience…

Lower energy than usual.  Time and clarity for thinking, though – and coming back to the pressing questions.

we’ve got soul!

I believe surely in the usefulness of the art I make – the passionate song-cycle “Postmodern Love,” about creating lasting relationships based on mutual respect and support – the live shows where you as audience members and I can connect directly, we can read each other, and inspire each other in the moment – and the conversations we have together along the way.

finding my place…

My questions have been around how to present these pictures, how to create the environments for the art to happen.  What are the key times and places?  I’ve been promoting my art, too, and I’ll continue to.  The traditional methods of flier promotion and freebie incentives seem like they could be tweaked, though, and new ones developed to fit.

And all this with the backdrop of international unrest, and the awesomeness of friends and the local scene.

More tomorrow – international keynotes for local action?  Fast day 2!

Your friend and ghandi-waxer,

Parzival
